To get started first we will download the contact import template file

  • From the BusinessMind home page click on Contacts.

  • From the Contacts home page click on the Create New Contact link

  • This will bring you to the contact creation screen. From here locate and click the Light Bulb Icon.

  • Select Download CSV Import Template File and save the file to your desktop or any location you choose.

  • Open the file with your favorite spreadsheet program.

Now that we have the template file open let us break down some important fields

  • The data_type field is required and should be populated with either contact or organization. Setting the data_type to contact means the contact you are importing is a person while organization means that the contact you are importing is a company.

  • The display_name, contact_first_name, and contact_last_name are ALL required if the contact you are importing is a person (data_type is set to contact).

  • If the contact you are importing is a company(data_type is set to organization) then only the display_name is required (leave contact_first_name and contact_last_name blank in this case)

The picture below shows an example of a person and a company on the import file

  • Fill out the whatever other applicable fields such as address, phone, and or email.  NOTE: Every address, phone, and email has a corresponding Label field. The _label of these various fields are required for this data to import so be sure to fill that out.

As per the picture below the address0_label is filled out for the corresponding addresses.

  • When you are ready Save your file as a .csv file. Only csv files can be imported into BusinessMind.

NOTE: If your file has more then 1000 lines we recommend you split your import into multiple files.

We recommend you submit your import file to support@dcit.com so that they can review it for you.

To import the file follow the below instructions

  • From the BusinessMind home page click on Contacts.

  • From the Contacts home page click on the Create New Contact link

  • From the Contact Create screen locate the Choose File button and click it.

  • Navigate to the location of the .csv file you saved and select it.

  • The save icon will change into an upload icon, click this to being the upload.

  • You will then receive an email once processing is complete to the email address associated with the user that was logged into BusinessMind.

Please NOTE:  Importing the same file multiple times will result in duplicate records.
